Kids Market Bucks Club

The Bremerton Farmers Market’s Kids Market Bucks Club is modeled after a national program called “Power of Produce” with some fun added twists. The mission of our program is to educate and encourage children to take part in their local food system, meet the farmers that grow their food, and understand the benefits of eating healthy, nutritious foods.

The market will run the Kids Market Bucks Club programming once a month on the 1st Thursday of each month (from 4pm – 7pm). For 2019 there will be a total of 6 weeks of kids programming (2019 Kids Schedule coming soon!).

Program will benefit children 3yrs – 13yrs old, with an emphasis on healthy eating and living activities. Each monthly activity will differ.

Participants visit the market booth each week the activity is offered. They will each have a “Passport to Health” to log attendance and completion of weekly activities. Once completed, kids are issued $4 in Kids Market Bucks to spend on fresh fruits, veggies and edible plant starts at our farm vendors. Kids that have attended all 6 monthly activities will be entered to win a fun kids prize pack at the end of the season. Passports are kept at the market so participants don’t have to remember to bring them back each week.

Who Benefits?
Kids are empowered to make healthier food choices on their own by having direct buying power with the market bucks. Through the activities provided monthly, they are exposed to healthier food options and healthier lifestyle behaviors which will provide them a solid foundation and enhance their food literacy.

Farmers also benefit from the additional funds circulating at the market through the Kids Market Bucks Club!

A HUGE Thank You to our 2018 Kids Market Bucks Program Sponsors. Without these community oriented businesses and organizations our kids programming would not be possible. Because of their generous donations we were able to serve 487 kids in 2018 and provide $3,052 to them for spending on fresh fruits and veggies at our farm vendors!
