READ UP! – STOP THE SUMMER SLIDE!
Hundreds of children in our community will have access to free books this summer thanks to the National Children’s Reading Foundation’s Read Up! summer literacy program. The program aims to reverse the “summer slide”, a situation where students lose up to three months of reading skills when school is out.
Children’s Reading Foundation of Kitsap-Olympic Peninsulas’ volunteers are bringing Read Up! to the market every Thursday through the end of August.
There will be two 20 minute “read-alouds” at 5:15 and 6:30 for children from birth to age 8 and their parents or caregivers. Each week, adults leave with new skills and motivation to encourage reading and children leave with a free new book and fun take-home materials!
Our new matching $ program, called Market Bucks, needs more $$ to keep it going! This program allows the Market to match the first $5 spent by our EBT / SNAP customers. If you are interested in making a donation to keep this program going, please contact Julia, our Market Manager, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 360-633-6137.
Thank you to our generous sponsors!
