Bremerton Farmers Market opens this Thursday, May 14 in a new location!
BREMERTON (May 12, 2009) – The Bremerton Farmers Market will kick off its fifth season this Thursday at 4 p.m. at its new location, the south parking lot of Evergreen Park.
This new market location is a result of partnering with the City of Bremerton during the winter to help the market reach its full potential in its young life.
“We are thrilled to have worked with the city to make this happen,” said John Bridger, president of the BFM Board of Directors.
“We’re going to be able to make use of this space in so many ways,” said BFM market manager Kim Schleis. “With a diverse line up of more than 20 vendors so far, our local market is going to be able to provide the area with a great selection of locally grown food and handcrafted products.”
This Thursday, there will be a small celebration at 4 p.m. to open the market season, with introductions from Bridger, City of Bremerton Mayor Cary Bozeman and city council members. Representatives from the city of Poulsbo and Kitsap County are also expected to attend. The Fort Lewis Army Band will be performing at the celebration and throughout the first day of market.
Highlights for the Bremerton Farmers Market this year:
- Will be accepting Women, Infant and Children (WIC) and Senior coupons starting June 1
- Offering a weekly e-newsletter for customers, promoting vendor specials and events at market each week
- Presenting the WSU Master Gardeners each week to answer any gardening questions
- Selling custom BFM market bags
Vendors are still being accepted for market; farmers are strongly encouraged. Application information can be found at www.bremertonmarket.com. The market is also looking for a treasurer.
Sponsors for this season include support from the city of Bremerton, Bremerton Patriot and Kitsap Sun.
The market will take place every Thursday from 4-7 p.m. through October 15, rain or shine.
